Austin Commuter Challenge – Team Search

April 6, 2009

Once someone has committed to being a team captain they should join a challenge.  Then users will be able to view the teams and their information by going to the competitions tab, clicking on all competitions and then selecting the competition they would like to view.

This will list all of the teams that are participating. From there you will be able to see who is on the team or send the captain a message if you would like to join their team.  Bicycle Sport Shop will have  a registration day this Saturday, April 11th  from 10am to 2pm if you would like to come register or have questions about the site.

If your company would like Bicycle Sport Shop to come to your place of business to host a registration day please contact Leslie Luciano at leslie_l@bicyclesportshop.com

We need more bike commuters in town. From the commuter challenge web site, it appears that the only incentive for this competition (beside the competition itself) is a commuter challenge trophy. Is this right? How about some other prizes that might motivate a greater number of people to ditch their car for a while?

    Just Asking,

We are trying to figure out how to work prizes into the picture. We have been slightly reluctant because the challenge is based on the honor system.

I am currently working with other events and companies to partner with that can offer up something.

Today we brokered a deal with Urban Assault to provide free entry to the top 3 places in the Austin Commuter Challenge Individual competition.

Top 3 places in each division will receive a medal and a trophy. Everyone will be invited to our after party celebration. Let me think about other things we might offer.

    Suggestions?

Perhaps a huge, valuable prize would tempt some to cheat. However, more simple, inexpensive prizes might encourage greater participation. For example, people love t-shirts. How about shirts for some easily achievable goal?

How about free coffee/sports drinks at a few key locations for bike commuters a couple of mornings during the month?

In terms of the big prize, there are many things I would rather win than a medal or trophy, such as “austin commuter challenge winner” bike sticker or t-shirt, bbq at Lance’s place, free membership at Austin Rowing Club for a month or two, or a $25 BSS gift certificate.

    Just Asking,

Those are all great suggestions. Keep checking back as I am sure I can make most of those happen.
