Earth Day

April 7, 2010

Thursday, April 22, 2010, marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day! As we all know, cycling in place of taking the car is a great way to help the environment—and your well being! But there is always room to do more! In honor of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, Bicycle Sport Shop is partnering up with the Hill Country Conservancy (HCC) to support a week-long celebration of our greatest natural resource—the planet!

The festivities kick off Wednesday, April 14th with a concert featuring the Old 97’s with special guest Ben Kweller at Stubb’s. Bicycle Sport Shop will be on hand to offer FREE valet bicycle parking and all proceeds from the concert will benefit the HCC and the Sierra Club. For more show information, visit

Additionally, Bicycle Sport Shop is partnering up with HCC and other groups for the “5% for Mother Earth” campaign! Be sure to shop Bicycle Sport Shop on Saturday, April 17th as 5% of our proceeds from that day’s sales will go to HCC and other environmentally focused organizations to support Mother Earth!

And, for those of you really looking to make a change, or to just go for a leisurely ride, Bicycle Sport Shop is hosting a “How To Be A Bike Commuter” ride on Sunday April 18th. The ride will leave from our Central Austin location at noon and will show you some routes through and around downtown and other areas.

Be Sure to RSVP for the April 18th “How To Be a Bike Commuter” here.

Comfortable commuter clothes, city bikes, and of course helmets are suggested gear, but come out and ride what you have! Expect to be back at the shop by 2 pm at the latest where we can talk shop regarding how to commute!
