Urban Assault Returns for 2010

June 3, 2010

This June 27th 1,500 adventure seekers will hit the streets, taking on some of the most funky and inventive obstacle courses in the country in a quest for beads.

The Urban Assault Ride™ is a truly unique cycling event…and quickly becoming one of the biggest in country! Here’s how it works: You and your teammate will set out on a city-wide quest for ‘checkpoints’ on your favorite two-wheeled steeds.  At each checkpoint, you’ll drop your bikes and complete a funky/adventurous obstacle course, collect your bead and then remount your bikes and hit the streets for more. The goal is to complete all the checkpoints in the shortest amount of time. You choose your own route and checkpoint order. This means that the most clever are often the victors. Of course, it may also help if you can pull a mean big-wheel power slide and fly across an inflatable slip-n-slide.

After your pedal-powered adventure, your team will cross the finish line and enter a massive celebration of bikes and beer. The after party is just as much fun as the ride itself, thanks to the craziest raffle prize contest you’ll ever experience. The rules are simple don’t cheat and have fun. Okay, there are a few more more rules, but you get the idea. This event is all about having fun and it’s also a great way to experience Austin – by bike.

Don’t forget to register to win a free Globe!

Globe Bicycles and Adventure Fit are celebrating their partnership in the New Belgium Brewing Urban Assault Ride with the “I Want to Win a New Globe Bike” contest. The contest, which launched March 23, 2010 and will run through April 4, 2010, will award a Globe Haul, a Globe Roll, or a Globe Live bicycle to one lucky winner.

Globe Bikes are inspired by and designed for urban cyclists, commuters and city dwellers and supports the unique needs of those who rely on their bicycles for transportation, not just recreation and fitness. This urban bike line features fixies, cargo bikes and everyday errand runner bikes with styles that speak to urban dwellers.

The contest is open to all, and more information is available at

I have on good authority that you will be very happy with this year’s obstacles. “Lots of water obstacles, human bowling, paper boy obstacle and plenty of surprises.” says Josh Kravetz. Josh and Jackie, the event promoters, produce 13 Urban Assault rides around the US so trust me when I say they know how to have good time.
