Friends of Evelyn Ride

June 24, 2010
Long-time Austin Flyer Evelyn Stehling died while on the Austin Flyers’ regular Wednesday evening ride last night (no car or accident was involved). She was a great representative of the cycling community and will be sorely missed. As a way to recognize her contributions to the cycling community and give those who knew her a chance to share their memories of her, the Austin Flyers women’s team will be hosting a ride this Saturday, June 26th.
Multiple routes are available- 25 to 60 miles, and all are welcome.  Coffee will be served compliments of Mellow Johnny’s starting at 7:30am. The ride leaves from Mellow Johnny’s at 8am.

    Chris,
Did this happen on River Hills and Bee Cave Road? I had someone on my site asking about a death there yesterday. Was Evelyn’s death health related?

I was actually on my way home when i got a txt from a friend who was doing that ride. I went and helped bring girls back to Mellow JOhnnys. It was horrendously sad. Yes, Evelyn died on River Hills road on the climb out back to Bee Caves. The neighbors were super kind and brought out water and gatorade for everyone while the police were taking statements.

The ride in-memorial for Evelyn starts at Mellow Johnnys at 8am.

I worked with Evelyn at the Texas Education Agency. She will be truly missed. What a precious woman. I am so sad to loose her.
