Ride the Best, Eat the Wurst!

August 31, 2010

The 2010 Wurst Ride is happening on Saturday, November 6 and registration is open on the Wurst Ride website!  This annual ride from Austin to New Braunfels, featuring a metric century (62 mile) route or a 42 kilometer (26 mile) option, is one ride you don’t want to miss out on!  Scenic hill country roads and five rest stops will keep you rolling towards the Comal County Fairgrounds where sausage and beer await everyone!  Well, beer for those of you over 21!

As in years past, the Wurst Ride is a charity fundraiser for the Bob Woodruff Foundation.  The Foundation, co-founded by award-winning television reporter Bob Woodruff and his family after he sustained serious injuries while covering the Iraq war in 2006, strives to provide resources and support to injured service members, veterans, and their families to help those individuals successfully reintegrate back into their communities so they may thrive physically, psychologically, socially, and economically.  The Woodruffs took this challenge on when they realized they were in a unique position to be a voice that could be heard throughout our nation–in civilian and military cultures and across political lines–on behalf of service members and their families.

The Foundation helps ensure our nation’s service members return to a home front ready to support them in three main ways:

  1. Through ReMind.org, to educate the public about the needs of service members returning from war.
  2. By collaborating with experts and organizations to identify and solve issues related to the return of service members from combat to civilian life.
  3. Investing in community based programs that connect our troops to the help they need.
