Urban Farm Bicycle Tour Returns

October 28, 2010

Mark your calendars for December 4. The Urban Farm Bicycle Tour returns, with more stops, more food, and more fun!

This self-guided bike ride includes stops at urban farms, school and community gardens and more — farm tours, chef-provided food samplings, and chances to win fabulous prizes, including a bike!

Now in its third year, the 2010 Urban Farm Bicycle Tour is a featured event of Edible Austin’s Eat Local Week and is poised to be the best yet. Over 400 participants took to the city streets at last year’s event, and feedback we received from the group was phenomenal.

The Urban Farm Bicycle Tour will benefit YouthLaunch’s Urban Roots program, a youth development program that uses sustainable agriculture as means to effect lasting change for youth participants, and to nourish East Austin residents who currently have limited access to healthy foods. Participants work a diversified organic farm in East Austin and sell a portion of their harvest in the Austin area and donating a portion to local hunger relief programs.

Starting Locations and Times are as follows:

  • Bicycle Sport Shop- Central – 517 South Lamar Blvd  – 9am
  • SFC Triangle Farmers’ Market – 46th and Lamar – 9am
  • SFC Sunset Valley Farmers’ Market – 3200 Jones Rd/Toney Burger Center – 9:30am
  • SFC Farmers’ Market – Republic Square Park, 4th and Guadalupe – 10am

This is your chance to discover some of Austin’s local food-producing gems on a family-friendly bicycle tour. Prices for this event are $25 individual, $40 family.  Your entry fee gets you chef-prepared tastings and samples during the tour stops.  A $20 add-on includes Urban Roots Farm Pig Roast and Harvest Dinner.

We look forward to seeing everyone on December 4th at the Urban Farm Bicycle Tour!
