Checking In at the Specialized Press Show!

July 12, 2012

Folks around the shop were a buzz a couple days back as news of more of Specialized‘s 2013 bikes broke over on Bike Rumor. Initially, the shop roadies, guys from Super Squarda, and the Bicycle Sport Shop Cyclocross Team were bug-eyed and daydreaming about the various new road and cross models coming. Just a couple hours later the Bicycle Sport Shop Mountain Bike Racing Team and all the other dirt lovers in store were drooling on the new off-road offerings from our friends in Morgan Hill.

While Bike Rumor’s road post briefly mentioned the Sirrus and the new Crosstrail, we’ve gotten a great sneak peak at two other new urban bikes from Specialized thanks to our well-placed sources at this week’s Specialized Press Camp. One of the new bikes is the Source Two. A limited edition Source urban commuter bike model where for every one sold, another will be given to World Bicycle Relief. A very cool bike benefiting a great program. Judging by the head badge, these could be limited to just 304 available.

It would appear that the 2013 Source Two is a limited edition affair.

The second bike is actually something we saw a random spy shot of earlier this Summer. Looks like there will in fact be a limited edition Roll. The special model, called the Roll 8, sports an 8-speed internal hub and a Gates Carbon Belt drivetrain, flush rear rack mounts, a front cargo rack, an a nifty looking finish. Word is that there will only be 275 of these available.

More 2013 bikes from our great vendors to come!  Stay tuned!

I’m really liking the Source Two! Is this a SS model or does it have an Alfine IGH?

Looks like it’s internally geared, Paul. Not sure if it’s Alfine or not, but certainly seems to have an internal mech. Good eye! Full details on these new 2013 models should be on the Specialized website soon.
