Interbike 2013

September 18, 2013

Our small contingent traveling to Interbike this year arrived yesterday, Tuesday, the day before the show actually opened. It gave us each a chance to settle in before a busy few days and to do our own things before getting down to business.

For me, that meant putting a bike together in a hotel room and riding over to the Dessert Breeze Soccer Complex to pre-ride the CrossVegas course. I’m in the Wheeler Dealer industry race, like last year, only this time, missing Joey and Cassidy, I’m facing the 150+ rider field alone.

A look at the barriers in advance of tomorrow’s race.

With high winds in the area all day, much of the course was yet to be set-up, but it was fully staked and rideable. I had a chance to say hello to Brook Watts and some of the crew from CyclingDirt.org, which is live streaming the race, and ride a couple of leisurely laps through the primarily grass course.

A downhill, tailwind assisted my ride back to The Strip and it was time for a shower and some evening plans.

I caught up with Molly Hurford from Cyclocross Magazine at Las Vegas Cyclery. They were hosting a little get together with Sven Nys. You might know him as the Cyclocross World Champ. Molly and I were able to pull him away and talk a bit about his move to Trek for 2014 and the oddity of seeing gamblers at 7:00am.

Catching up with the CX World Champ, Sven Nys.

A quick ride back to the hotel with Molly, Ben Berden, and Nicole Duke and it was time for dinner and to rest up for Interbike, Day 1.
