BSSU

Bicycle Sport Shop University courses are taught by our certified and expert mechanics in bicycle maintenance and repair.  During each course, students will have an opportunity to work with our instructors to improve their skills or learn some new ones.  After completing the series students will have learned everything they need to know to keep their bicycle rolling smoothly and safely.

Courses will cover a wide array of topics from information on basic mechanical skills to detailed instructions for repairing and maintaining wheels, bearing assemblies, braking and shifting systems, fork overhauls and much more.

Current courses include such topics as:

  • Pre-ride bike inspection
  • Flat tire repair
  • Tools and lubrication
  • Cleaning your bike
  • Hands-on wheel truing

Basic Maintenance Course – FREE

In this 1 hour class students will learn the basic skills needed to keep their bike running safely while on the road.  We will cover:

  • Pre-ride bike inspection
  • Changing a flat
  • Proper cleaning & lubrication
  • Tools for your ride

Student to Teacher Ratio: 12:1   

Class Locations & Times:

Spring/Summer (Mar. 12 – Oct. 15) Both Locations Every Thursday Evening 6 – 7pm

Fall/Winter (Oct. 16 – Mar. 11) North 1st & 3rd Thursday Evenings 6 – 7pm   Central 2nd & 4th Thursday Evenings 6 -7pm

Women’s Only Basic Maintenance Course – FREE

In this 1 hour class students will learn the basic skills needed to keep their bike running safely while on the road.  We will cover:

  • Pre-ride bike inspection

Wheel Truing 101- $45

This 3 hour class will cover wheel theory, learn how to assess wheel damage and true wheels.

Students will learn:

  • Wheel theory
  • All aspects of truing (lateral, radial, dish, and tension)
  • How to assess and repair wheel and rim damage

Tools used in this course:

  • Truing stand
  • Dishing tool
  • Spoke wrenches
  • Spoke tension meter

These tools will be provided for the class. Students wishing to purchase their own will receive 20% off these items.
