SHAMMIES ‘N KOOZIES- RESCHEDULED

June 17, 2010

Packet Pick Up Friday, August 6th from 3pm to 6pm at Bicycle Sport Shop South Lamar

After being postponed due to severe flooding in Comal County, the inaugural Shammies ‘N Koozies Ride & Float event has been rescheduled for Saturday, August 7th, 2010, and registration has been re-opened.  Austin-based sports management company Cadence Sports, Inc., along with Rockin’ R River Rides, will pick up where they left off and ensure a successful event.

This event combines central Texas summer pastimes for participants, by providing a fully supported bike ride, delicious barbecue, and a leisurely float down the Guadalupe River.  The Shammies ‘N Koozies staff will make sure the event is a turn-key experience with bag-check and optional shuttle and bike transport services.  A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the Friends of Blue Hole Foundation.

“Mother Nature was not on our side in early June, but we’re fortunate to be able to reschedule the event and re-open registration.  It’s going to be a lot of fun.” said Cadence Sports co-founder, Gary Metcalf.  “Everyone involved has been very understanding and flexible.  It’s been very humbling – not only from the level of destruction in a matter of a few hours, but also the resiliency shown by the folks in Comal County.”

Volunteer registration has also been re-opened.  Volunteering at events is an enjoyable way to be an active member of the community, and Shammies ‘N Koozies is sure to provide a fun atmosphere for participants and volunteers alike.  Those who are interested can go to http://shammiesnkoozies.com/volunteer.html to sign up.

WHAT IS SHAMMIES ‘N KOOZIES?
It’s riding your bike in the beautiful Texas hill country.
It’s taking a load off for some music and Texas BBQ.
It’s relaxing and floating the Guadalupe River with your friends and family.

Shammies ‘N Koozies – Ride & Float combines these summer pastimes and gives you the best of both worlds! You can choose a 45 or 65 mile, fully supported bike ride from Wimberley to the Guadalupe River (at the Rockin’ R River Rides venue). Once you finish, it’s time to refuel with some BBQ, then grab a tube and enjoy a relaxing 2-hour float down the river.

Their bag check and (optional) bike/gear transport services will provide a hassle-free experience. Your toobin’ gear will be waiting for you after the ride, and if you choose, you and your riding gear will be taken back to Wimberley after you float.
