Bicycle Sport Shop 2013 Cycling Clubs!

December 14, 2012

BicycleSportShop_WebLogo_2ColorBicycle Sport Shop has a rich tradition of supporting riders and racers in all disciplines of cycling. While we’re probably most known for our mountain bike team, and more recently for the guys from Super Squadra, for 2013 everyone that wants to commit to come along for the ride is welcome!

We want everyone to be a part of the Bicycle Sport Shop family. As a result, we’re creating four new clubs—the Bicycle Sport Shop Road, Mountain, Triathlon, and Cyclocross Clubs—open to all riders of any ability, with the goal of growing the cycling community here in Central Texas. And memberships are available now, just in time to make a great holiday gift!

Interested riders of any discipline at any level will be able to join at any point in the year making our clubs the most accessible around. Moreover, our clubs are committed to helping grow the future of Central Texas cycling by focusing on developing younger riders. We’re increasing our commitment to youth cycling, and we want you and your junior riders to join us! Not only are we adding support to various youth-oriented cycling programs such as the much heralded Texas High School Mountain Bike League, but we’re also creating a special scholarship program to help kids and their families who might otherwise find the cost of entry to cycling too much.

Our four new clubs will offer cyclists a home club as well as a chance to race as part of a team for those that are interested in competing. The race components of our four clubs will help cyclists looking to “pin up” for their first ever race or for a run at the podium at their latest event.

So how does it work?

The Bicycle Sport Shop Road, Mountain, Triathlon, and Cyclocross Clubs will be open to everyone, regardless of ability or interest in racing. Annual dues in the amount of $75 will earn each rider membership in the club of their choice (each additional club is just $1), as well as Bicycle Sport Shop Cycling Club branded gear: a club jersey or tri-top from Primal Wear, a club t-shirt, and shop-branded Swiftwick socks. Moreover, those looking to race will be able to order Bicycle Sport Shop branded race kits at substantial savings from our official race-clothing provider, Castelli Cycling.

There will be special club-only clinics and training opportunities throughout the year, as well as speaker events, hospitality tent access for club members and their families at certain events, savings on rental products, quarterly dealer/vendor nights with big savings and product instruction, and race reimbursements based on the overall club budget and requirements set forth by each of the clubs’ captains.

Of course, everyone likes to save on cycling gear. So we’re creating the Legacy Program. Those club members that commit to donating a minimum of four volunteer hours per month (thinking leading or sweeping shop rides, helping with Women’s Ride Day, helping with Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day, working a rest-stop at Real Ale Ride, etc.), promote the Bicycle Sport Shop brand in a positive and outgoing way, and help bring new riders to the fold, will get 20% off all parts and accessories for the year AND after July 1 a limited number of the truly dedicated will be considered for a special deal on a bike.

Our Premiere Corporate Sponsor, Fiat of Austin!

Our Premiere Corporate Sponsor, Fiat of Austin!

Of course, we couldn’t do this ourselves. So we’ve enlisted some great supporting sponsors to help us, including our Premier Corporate sponsor, Fiat of Austin as well as our “Category Three” sponsors, Hill Country Running, The Lewis Insurance Agency (Allstate) and Toro Performance Nutrition.  We also have some terrific in-kind sponsors:  City Limits Chiropractic, Cycle Camp USA, The Jewish Community Center, Pure Austin Fitness, and Wahoo’s Fish Tacos.  Many of these sponsors will be offering club members special discounts throughout the year as well.

In-house, our own Jason Lentzke will be our Sponsorship Coordinator and will work with our great sponsors as well as the captains of each of the clubs to keep track of events and offers for club members, as well as making sure that those club members who commit to the Legacy Program are living up to their special responsibilities. Each club’s captains will keep members up-to-date on events, rides, and other member news.  For 2013, the club captains are:

Mountain:  Sara Krause and Craig Kunz

Triathlon:  Claudia Spooner and Jason Lentzke

Road:  Todd Musick

Cyclocross:  Daniel Curtin

And, for those that want up-to-the-minute club information and a way to connect with other club members, each club will have it’s own Facebook page where everyone can stay in touch:

More details, including registration information, can be found here. We’re going to have a launch party for everyone who has joined as well as for those interested in learning more at the end of January at the Fiat of Austin showroom at The Domain. At that time we will be giving everyone their member welcome packets that will include the club clothing package.  You will also get to meet the captains and get more information about the calendar of events for the four new clubs, one of which we hope is your new cycling club!

When is the deadline to sign up in order to receive a packet in January?

Dave, there is no deadline per se. Folks can join at any point of the year, so we’re going to try to have the Club clothing package on hand in most sizes most of the time. But the sooner folks register the more accurate our forecasting can be for the initial gear order. Thanks for reading, and for checking out our 2013 Cycling Clubs!
